Lines

Behaviour is shaped by lines.
Some explicit.
Some implicit.
Some conscious.
Some unconscious.
Some are honoured.
Some are ignored.
Some are defended.
Some are crossed without consequence.
That is where culture lives.
Because a line that is not clear, observed and enforced is not a line at all.
It is theatre.
Behaviour change starts with three questions:
- Where are the lines?
- How consistently are they held?
- Do they all point towards the mission?
Because people do not just respond to rules.
They respond to what defines safety, status, reward and success.
That is the real work of culture change.
